What do I need to run Hush?+
An Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later, a working microphone, and English speech assets. An internet connection may be needed to prepare those assets. Apple Intelligence is needed only for polishing; otherwise, Hush keeps your original transcript.
Does my voice leave my Mac?+
Speech recognition and polishing run on your Mac. Hush does not save microphone audio or upload transcripts to a Hush server. Up to 200 history entries stay in a local plaintext file, which you can clear from the app. Hush has no usage analytics. Apple manages speech and model downloads; update checks and downloads contact GitHub.
How do I start and stop recording?+
Hold Fn to start speaking from any app, then release to finish. Enable Hush in macOS Input Monitoring and set the Globe key action to Do Nothing. You can also use the microphone button in Hush’s menu-bar panel, or Cancel to discard a recording and return to history.
Does Hush type directly into other apps?+
Yes. Hold Fn to speak and release to finish and paste, with Accessibility enabled. Paste follows your current keyboard focus and uses the clipboard temporarily before restoring it if unchanged. Clipboard managers may retain that text. If an app does not accept paste, your transcript remains in history. The microphone button offers review and Copy instead.
Which languages does it support?+
The current version supports English dictation. Apple’s speech assets may need to download before your first recording.
Is Hush really free?+
Yes. Hush Free has no account, license key, subscription, or usage quota. Pro is a planned, optional edition at $29 one-time. Its features and availability are still being shaped; no payment is collected now.
How can I get support or share feedback?+
For now, report an issue on GitHub ↗. Include your Hush version, macOS version, and what happened. GitHub issues are public: please leave out private transcripts, audio, and sensitive screenshots.
